Oy vey

This week I have alot of crap to do. I might give up all social interneting for a week. If that makes any sense.

This is how it happend

Tuesday night Mike and I decide to drive up to Traverse City to see his sister's play. It was not the greatest idea we've ever had, as I had 2 exams the next day bright and early. But we're risk takers and did it anyway.
The play was cute, and we saw a few friends for awhile and we decided to study awhile and sleep and then leave at 6am. Well once I got studying I realized exactly how much there was to cover and did not stop until 4am.
At that point we decided, what the hell, we will make a night of it and started off on our 2 hour journey home at 4am.
During that time we had some of the most exciting, enlightening, happy conversations of our lives and well...its extremely difficult to relay that amazing feeling where everything feels right, but ..it did.
We drove into Mt. Pleasant around 6am and Mike suggested we take a walk because it was beautiful out, he stopped at his apartment to get a notepad (and i didn't think anything of it when he came out without one)
We stop at home and then as soon as we step out of my apartment into the driveway he hugs me close and puts something into my hand...I was tired and thought it was a quarter and dropped it on the ground. When I pick it back up I realize its a ring! And he asks me to marry him. :)
Of course i say yes! and thus ensues a long time of us both freaking out in the driveway being happy yadda yadda ;)
I guess he was waiting for the right moment and it really couldn't have been more perfect.

So after grad school and after David returns from abroad we will be getting married, so about 2 years or so.

I am happy :)
and that's how it happened.

3am

On the way to pulling an all nighter- grad school conditioning...ps. I hate Eliot right now.

How Sherwood Anderson died

Anderson died in Panama at the age of 64. The cause of death was peritonitis after he accidentally swallowed a piece of a toothpick embedded in a martini olive at a party.[4]

HATE HATE

I positively hate studying early 1900's dead rich white guy poetry...
I am going to keel over and die because of it.
Put me out of my literary misery please.

Trying to be brave- Children's story I'm working on- Feedback preferred

Work, years in progress. I am not much of a writer, but this was fun to do in one of my boring classes. Feedback appreciated, feel free to butcher it. Its geared towards middle elementary students. I am aware that grammar/punctuation is completely off :)

Margot's Brainstorm

Margot sat on the toilet
She was brainstorming in the only
private place in the house

With a flush and tornado
Margot spun through her thoughts
and landed on a soft gray membrane

Suddenly figures and life formed around her!
mouse detectives looking for clues
A dragon waltzing with his wife at the ball
An orchestra of vegetables playing instruments
Margot marveled at the asparagus's violin solo

An owl darted past her
Margot sped after him without thinking
He stopped, flew to her and she hopped on his feathery back

The two flew over her brainstorm
chattering with excitement
at the amount of rainbows
treasure maps
pirates
massive blue oceans with
sea turtles having tea
and narwhals watching the sunset

The owl landed on the most beautiful sprawling tree
with leaves that glittered
and tasted of grilled cheese
and tomato soup

There Margot observed the world
her brain had created
she dictated to the owl
who carefully put his monocle in place
and wrote every world she spoke

Soon exhaustion took her
The tree cradled her softly
the owl hummed her favorite lullaby
and she fell fast asleep.

Margot awoke with a sudden jolt!
Her brother was knocking on the bathroom door
She stood up, washed her hands and smiled

And sat down to the dinner table
with her mother and father
to a delicious grilled cheese and tomato soup

(the final illustration will be the mother and father as allusions to the tree and owl in her brainstorm, so the tree and owl will be them personified)

The dog

Last Sunday Mike and I were out for a morning bike ride, the air was warm (in this case probably 50 degrees) and we were trolling the downtown looking for an apartment for him next year.

I saw a brown dog bolt from someone's backyard and run around aimlessly but fast.

My thought process:

Ok that dog must be lost or a runaway, I should catch it.
It might have rabies.
It doesn't look rabid.
Its probably a neighborhood dog, this is normal.

----------

I decided to leave it alone, trying to convince myself that it was just a neighborhood dog, and continued on.

The next block over, we were looking at a for rent sign, when the brown dog bolted out from some bushes and practically into my hands. He was really quite nice and tame, and had a collar but no tags. His ribs were showing through his skin, but he just stood patiently with me.
I thought, well this is a really tame dog, I bet this is just a neighborhood dog still and I let go of his collar for a split second to see if he would stay.

I was so wrong, the dog bolted, I instantly knew then he was a runaway and biked after him. We cornered him into a back yard and I caught him again.
Then...I mean what do you do when you catch a dog..on a sunday?

I sent Mike home for the bike rack/car and asked everyone who walked/drove by if they had seen the dog before.

I must have waited there 15/20 minutes trying to figure out what to do, when the owner pulled up in a van. She thanked me for catching her dog, he was just adopted from the Humane Society 2 weeks ago.

So...I felt pretty good about this, although I let that dog get away from me twice. I'm glad he's safe.

----------------------
Now there's another animal dilemma. There's a cat lady that lives a few houses down from me, there are always many cats all over the yard/ the glass in her windows is broken/ the garage is always open and just crap all over the yard. This morning ( on another bike ride) there was a cat, who looked extremely sad and broken walking as if it could barely pick itself up. It broke my heart, but I don't know who to call.

I have way too much human/animal empathy. Its so difficult for me to deal with homeless people/animals.

wowee

Friday afternoon after walking home and listening to the birds chirp, I opened my mailbox to find absolutely nothing.

I walk up the stairs and hang my head in shame as there was no letter from U of M.

I check my gmail and fell of my chair crying...because i was accepted!

I am going to be in Ann Arbor from June 2009 to June 2010 obtaining a masters in education and getting my teaching certification in elementary language arts and fine arts.

I couldn't be happier and honestly barely thought i had an iota of making it in to the elitist big ten "University of Michigan"

Its boosted my confidence immensely and I cannot wait to begin. I've been looking for places to live all weekend.

Now i can throw away all my stupid back up plans and go for what i really wanted.

In other news...

Going to FL again in a week-- Mike is coming so it will be fun and tolerable.

Had a really good weekend filled with weird movies like one hour photo, earth vs the flying sauces which quickly turned into Contact and then Kinsey. We stay up farr too late.

Went out both Fri and Sat night, and both times was bought celebratory drinks, I never payed a dime this weekend for anything alcohol-related.

Things are coming together...and it feels so so good. I'm glad I made the right choice coming back here. I will miss my apartment though.

Randomly below I am going to post my recipe for tortellini soup...the way i like to make it.

Vegetable or Chicken broth (in my case i use veg, mike is a vegetarian)
salt/pepper to taste
garlic to taste
red pepper fakes, just a couple shakes
2 chopped tomatoes
chopped up spinach
tortellinis

when you boil the tortellini's add the tomatoes and spinach about 3 minutes before the pasta is done

and thats it! and its amazing

my mom used to make it when i was a kid and i always loved it
especially when I'm feeling sick (which i am)

Mike is currently in his studio making a really neat photo piece. He learned how to crochet for it and I can't wait to see it.
